Social Services in New York City

For over 50 years, UJCES has assessed and responded to the changing needs of all New Yorkers. We provide a broad array of social services to empower our clients to overcome crises, gracefully age in place, and maintain a dignified quality of life.

Services are available in English, Russian, Spanish, and Chinese.

Services

  • UJCES trained staff can help with:

    • Food stamps (SNAP)

    • Medicare/Medicaid enrollment

    • Social Security issues

    • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

    • Free or low-cost prescription medicines

    • Home heating support (HEAP)

    • Home Care Services (MLTC.)

  • We work closely with local organizations and attorneys to provide free legal consultation.

    We can assist with:

    • Translating and preparing legal forms

    • Accompanying you to the Housing Court

    • Representing you in Fair Hearing.

  • UJCES Housing Specialists can assist with:

    • Applications for affordable housing (including lotteries, NYCHA, and Section 8 apartments)

    • Housing counseling

    • Eviction prevention

    • Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE)

    • Disability Rent Increase Exemption (DRIE) applications

    • Mobility counseling

    • Homeless assistance

    • Working with landlords to resolve problems.
